How it breaks
Orrestranden is Norway's longest continuous sand beach, five kilometres of shifting bars, with a stone point at the south end that breaks both ways when the sand has built up around it.
Getting there
Park at Friluftshuset Orre at the southern end, which has year-round facilities.
Watch out for
- Rip currents strengthen on bigger days along the open beach.
Local detail
Wind-sensitive: the long rippable walls only line up when the bars align, best on northeast to east wind.
The southern point zone sits in a bird reserve where surfing is prohibited from 1 October to 31 March; the open beach stays legal year-round.
