How it breaks

Borestranden is Norway's most popular surf beach: three kilometres of sandbar peaks that pick up more swell than the neighbouring breaks, with a rivermouth bar at the Figgjo outlet and a boulder section at the north end.

Getting there

Park at the main Borestranden lot; Bore Surf Senter runs rentals and courses from the beach.

Watch out for

  • Rip currents form along the bars, especially around the rivermouth.
  • Winter water runs four to eight degrees; a 5/4 with hood, boots and gloves is standard from October to May.

Local detail

Works from small summer windswell to long-period northwest groundswell; the bars decide which peak is on.

Crowd

The Stavanger crowd concentrates here on good weekends; midweek dawn sessions stay quiet.
