Visibility, Current, and Swell Decide the Dive Window
A dive site can be good on paper and wrong in the water. The useful window appears when visibility, current, swell, and entry risk line up.
A dive site has windows.
The water can be clear in the morning and clouded by afternoon wind. Current can ease around slack and become uncomfortable later. A shore entry can look manageable until swell angle changes. Temperature can be fine at the surface and colder below the first layer.
That is why dive planning needs timing, not just conditions.
Visibility Is Fragile
Visibility often changes after wind, swell, rain, boat traffic, algae, or bottom disturbance. It is site-specific and hard to infer perfectly.
A good dive tool should treat clarity as an interpreted signal. It should combine available observations with environmental context and clearly communicate confidence.
If visibility is inferred rather than measured, that matters.
Current Changes the Dive
Current is not only a number. Direction, timing, entry point, exit plan, and diver discipline all change how it feels.
For freedivers and spearfishers, current can affect station keeping, surface swims, and fatigue. For scuba divers, it can change the route and turn a relaxed dive into a drift. For shore entries, current near rocks, channels, and harbor structures deserves special attention.

Swell Is an Entry Problem
Swell height offshore is not the same as entry risk.
A small swell from the wrong direction can make rocks or ladders awkward. A larger but better-aligned swell can be manageable at a protected site. Wind chop can reduce surface comfort and clarity even when the underwater plan looks fine.
The site geometry matters.
So does the diver's discipline.
Temperature Layers Matter
Surface temperature is useful, but divers care about what happens below.
Thermocline context can change suit choice, bottom time comfort, and species behavior for spearfishing. Where vertical profile data is missing, a product should avoid pretending exact layer depth. It can still provide useful seasonal and environmental context.
The Window Is the Product
A site briefing is useful when it says: here is the most plausible window, here are the limiting signals, and here is how confident the app is.
That lets a diver decide whether to go, wait, switch site, or keep planning.
